She died on Tuesday evening, 12 May 2026, at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after suffering heart failure, according to a statement released by her family.

McCloy was widely recognised as a dynamic figure in South Africa’s creative industry, working across multiple fields including DJing, public relations, and fashion design. Over the years, she built a reputation as a vibrant personality whose work and presence left a lasting imprint on colleagues and collaborators.
In the family statement announcing her passing, she was described as someone who embraced life fully and brought warmth and energy into every space she entered.
“Maria… a vibrant and creative soul who embraced life wholeheartedly as a DJ, Publicist and Fashion Designer… was loved by her family, friends, colleagues and community at large.”
The statement added that her kindness and ability to connect with people defined much of how she was remembered.
“Her kindness, warmth, generosity and unwavering love for those around her touched many lives and will never be forgotten. She had a special way of bringing people together and her presence brought comfort, laughter and love to all who knew her.”
Family describes devastating loss
McCloy is survived by her mother and two sisters, Thandiwe and Natasha, alongside extended family members and close friends who, the family said, are devastated by the sudden loss.
The McCloy family also requested privacy as they come to terms with the tragedy.
“During this incredibly difficult and shocking time, the family humbly asks for privacy as they grieve and come to terms with their loss and kindly ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
They expressed appreciation for the messages of support and condolences received since the news became public.
