The experienced Portuguese tactician addressed the rumours during his pre-match press conference ahead of Benfica’s clash against Braga on Sunday, insisting that no contact has been made between him and the Madrid hierarchy.
Mourinho’s name has resurfaced in recent days as one of several managers reportedly being considered by Real Madrid following uncertainty over the club’s long-term coaching plans.
The Spanish giants are currently searching for stability on the bench after parting ways with Xabi Alonso a few months ago. In the meantime, former club defender Alvaro Arbeloa has been serving as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
Despite growing reports in European media, Mourinho made it clear that he has not engaged in any discussions with Real Madrid officials and has no intention of entertaining speculation at this stage of the campaign.
“I have not had any contact with the Real Madrid club management, and due to my own decision, especially at the end of the season,” Mourinho said.
“I will not discuss these matters with anyone. I will not talk about it,” he added.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, overseeing one of the club’s most competitive modern eras. During his spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, he won the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup while building a fierce rivalry with Barcelona under Pep Guardiola.
Known for his tactical discipline and strong personality, Mourinho remains one of football’s most decorated managers, having coached top European clubs including Chelsea, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and AS Roma.
Although he has denied any current discussions with Real Madrid, the comments are unlikely to completely end speculation over who will eventually take charge of the 14-time European champions on a permanent basis.
