Nigeria’s aviation industry is set for another technological boost as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced plans to officially launch its Drone and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems portal during the upcoming DroneTecX 2026.

The highly anticipated conference and exhibition will hold from May 12 to 16 at the NIGAV Expo Centre in Lagos State, bringing together stakeholders in the aviation and drone technology ecosystem across Africa.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, and shared via the agency’s official X account on Saturday.

According to the regulatory body, the new portal represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to modernise drone operations, improve regulatory efficiency, and support the rapid expansion of the unmanned aircraft sector. The platform is expected to centralise and digitise major regulatory processes for drone operators nationwide.

The NCAA explained that users of the portal will be able to carry out drone registration, operator certification, compliance management, incident reporting, and ownership transfer processes through a single online system. The digital solution is also designed to serve individuals, commercial operators, startups, and small and medium-scale enterprises operating within the drone space.

In the statement, the authority highlighted the ease and transparency the system is expected to introduce into the sector.

“The new digital portal consolidates the entire application and approval lifecycle into a single, user-friendly platform.

“Operators can now submit documentation, upload safety case files and track application status in real time, all in full compliance with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs Part 22).”

The aviation regulator further encouraged drone operators, service providers, industry stakeholders, and prospective users to familiarise themselves with the platform before its official rollout.

Interested participants were advised to explore the RPAS portal through the NCAA RPAS Portal and attend the DroneTecX 2026 event for live demonstrations and practical guidance on how the platform operates.

Industry observers say the initiative could significantly reduce bureaucratic delays, improve compliance monitoring, and encourage wider adoption of drone technology across sectors such as logistics, agriculture, security, mapping, and media production in Nigeria.
