A notable recognition has come for Nigeria’s creative communications sector as Mabel Adeteye, a senior marketing executive, secures a jury appointment at one of the world’s most influential advertising gatherings.

Adeteye, who currently serves as Head of Brands and Marketing Communications at Wema Bank Plc, has been selected as a jury member for the Brand Experience & Activation category at the 2026 edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The festival will take place from June 22 to 26, 2026, in Cannes, France, bringing together leading figures in advertising, media, and global brand storytelling.

Her appointment places her among international decision-makers tasked with evaluating campaigns that define the future of brand engagement, consumer experience, and creative innovation.

It also underscores the growing visibility of African professionals in global marketing conversations, particularly in areas where creativity intersects with technology, culture, and business strategy.

A Career Built on Brand Transformation and Storytelling

Adeteye’s selection reflects a career spanning multiple sectors, where she has consistently focused on audience engagement, brand positioning, and integrated communications strategy.

At Wema Bank, she has led several high-impact campaigns aimed at reshaping perception and strengthening customer connection, particularly among younger and digitally active audiences. These include the bank’s 80th anniversary campaign, the “One Day MD/CEO” initiative for children, and the youth-focused “Sounds of ALAT” campaign, which highlights the institution’s digital banking ecosystem.

Beyond campaigns, her work has extended into digital growth and brand visibility, helping drive stronger engagement across social and multimedia platforms.

Experience Across Media, Banking, and Global Brands

Before joining Wema Bank, she spent more than seven years at TVC Communications, where she managed corporate communications, digital strategy, and public relations across its media properties, including TVC News, TVC Entertainment, and Max FM. During that period, she played a key role in the relaunch of Max FM in Lagos and oversaw communication efforts during major reputational and organisational transitions.

Earlier in her career, she contributed to campaigns for global brands such as British Airways, Coca-Cola, Ford Motors, and Etisalat, building expertise in integrated communications, stakeholder engagement, and brand management across diverse markets.

“Creativity is no longer defined by geography”

Reacting to her appointment, Adeteye described it as a significant milestone not only for her career but also for African professionals working in global creative industries.

“Creativity is no longer defined by geography. Some of the most exciting brand experiences today are coming from markets that understand people deeply and know how to create authentic emotional connections. It is a privilege to join this year’s jury and contribute to recognising work that is moving culture and redefining engagement globally,” she said.

Growing Global Recognition for Nigerian Talent

Industry observers say her selection reflects a broader trend of increasing international recognition for Nigerian and African professionals shaping modern advertising, consumer experience design, and strategic communications.

With experience spanning banking, telecommunications, FMCG, broadcasting, and digital media, Adeteye has developed a reputation for blending strategic thinking with culturally grounded storytelling—an approach increasingly valued in global creative evaluation spaces like Cannes Lions.
