Domestic airline operator Rano Air has temporarily suspended some of its flight services following the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices, a situation that continues to put heavy financial pressure on airline operators across Nigeria.

The airline disclosed this in a public statement issued on Friday, explaining that the soaring cost of Jet A1 fuel had made operations on several routes increasingly difficult to sustain.

According to the carrier, aviation fuel prices have risen by more than 300 per cent, drastically increasing operational expenses and threatening the profitability of some routes.

“Rano Air wishes to inform the general public and our valued passengers that, due to the unprecedented escalation in the cost of Jet A1 aviation fuel by over 300 per cent, the operational cost of sustaining some of our routes has become extremely challenging and commercially unsustainable,” the airline stated.

The company noted that the decision to suspend some operations was taken after careful consideration, stressing that the worsening fuel crisis has continued to affect the entire aviation industry.

Rano Air explained that the spike in fuel prices has placed enormous strain on flight operations, forcing airlines to review their operational strategies in order to remain financially stable and maintain safety standards.

“This significant increase in fuel prices has greatly impacted the aviation industry and placed enormous pressure on our flight operations. In view of the current situation, Rano Air has taken the difficult but necessary decision to suspend some of our routes temporarily,” the statement added.

The airline apologised to passengers and business partners for the disruption caused by the development, assuring affected customers that support measures had already been put in place.

According to the airline, passengers with existing bookings on the affected routes would be offered options including refunds, flight rescheduling, and rerouting arrangements where applicable.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause to our esteemed passengers and business partners. Please be assured that this decision was made after careful consideration and in the interest of maintaining safe, reliable, and sustainable operations,” the airline said.

Rano Air further stated that its customer service teams had been directed to provide necessary assistance and guidance to affected passengers during the temporary suspension period.

The airline, however, expressed optimism that normal operations on the affected routes would resume once aviation fuel prices stabilise and operating conditions become more financially manageable.

The development comes amid growing concerns within Nigeria’s aviation sector over the persistent rise in operational costs, with operators warning that the increasing price of Jet A1 fuel is threatening the sustainability of domestic air travel services.
