Telecommunications company Vitel Wireless has entered into a strategic partnership with OPay and Moniepoint to allow millions of Nigerians purchase airtime and data directly through their bank accounts and digital wallets.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen access to mobile connectivity nationwide by taking advantage of the fintech platforms’ wide customer reach and digital payment infrastructure, especially in rural and underserved communities where access to telecom services has traditionally been limited.

Speaking on the development, Chief Operating Officer of Vitel Wireless, Chudi Nwabueze, described the partnership as a major milestone in connecting financial technology with telecommunications services in Nigeria.

According to him, the initiative builds on the company’s earlier collaborations with conventional financial institutions, including Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank, while extending similar services to fintech platforms.

“Vitel Wireless continues to showcase the close collaboration between financial services and telecom services by extending its partnership model with traditional banks to fintech giants such as OPay and Moniepoint,” Nwabueze said.

He explained that the integration would enable users to buy airtime and subscribe to data bundles seamlessly through their existing fintech wallets and digital banking applications, removing several barriers that previously affected accessibility and convenience.

Also commenting on the partnership, Product Marketing Manager at Vitel Wireless, Odera Ben-Chiobi, said the initiative supports the company’s broader vision of making mobile connectivity more accessible to Nigerians regardless of location.

“By partnering with leading fintech platforms like OPay and Moniepoint, we are bringing telecom services closer to millions of Nigerians, particularly in rural areas where access has traditionally been limited,” she said.

Ben-Chiobi further noted that the collaboration aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen financial inclusion by integrating telecom services with digital financial platforms to create a more affordable and efficient ecosystem for users.

Vitel Wireless currently operates nationwide through an infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN Nigeria, allowing the company to co-share radio infrastructure across different parts of the country.

The company stated that the partnership reflects a collective commitment among the firms involved to drive inclusive growth, improve digital access, and enable more Nigerians participate actively in the country’s expanding digital economy.
