Nollywood actress and media personality Nancy Isime has shared candid insights into her personal faith, describing her approach to Christianity as unconventional compared to mainstream expectations in Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview on Jay-on-air, the actress explained that her spiritual journey is guided more by personal conviction and intuition than strict reliance on religious authority figures.
According to her, she does not place her spiritual direction in the hands of clergy or religious leaders in the traditional sense. “I don’t serve mortals. So, I don’t have the need to perform for mortals,” she said, emphasizing her independence of thought and belief.
She further explained that she is intentional about forming her own understanding of God rather than following a single human authority blindly. “I would always have a mind of my own. I would always do my own thing. I would always figure out God for myself,” she stated.
However, she noted that she still listens to selected spiritual voices she respects, mentioning figures such as Apostle Joshua Selman as part of her influences. “When you understand the kind of preachers I listen to, you will understand where I am coming from,” she said.
Nancy Isime also acknowledged that her perspective may not align with conventional religious expectations, adding: “I am not your typical Nigerian Christian, and I don’t want to be.”
She concluded by affirming her belief in independent thinking within her faith, saying, “I have my own mindset just like Jesus.”
Her comments have since sparked conversations online about individuality in religious practice, especially among younger Christians navigating personal belief systems in contemporary society.
