As concerns continue to grow over rising cases of marital conflict and family breakdown, Nigerian filmmaker and gospel drama minister Felix Bankole is using the power of storytelling to address some of the challenges confronting Christian homes.
His latest film, The Legal Wife, released on May 22 via Felix Bankole TV, delves into the emotional struggles, trust issues, and unresolved personal histories that often threaten the foundation of marriage. More than just a drama, the production is designed to inspire reflection, healing, and reconciliation among couples navigating difficult seasons in their relationships.
Produced by Vision Drama Missions Outreach International in partnership with Light Ministries International, the film examines how past attachments, emotional wounds, betrayal, and misunderstandings can quietly infiltrate marriages and create deep divisions when left unresolved.
At the centre of the story are three families, each confronting unique marital challenges. Through their experiences, the film explores the realities many couples face behind closed doors—ranging from broken trust and communication gaps to the lingering influence of former partners. By bringing these sensitive issues to the forefront, The Legal Wife seeks to encourage honest conversations about marriage and commitment.
For Bankole, whose productions often combine faith-based teachings with social realities, the project was inspired by growing concerns over the increasing rate of divorce and family instability, particularly within Christian communities. He believes films can serve as powerful tools for both ministry and societal transformation.
“The Legal Wife hopes to bring peace and harmony to many homes under attack,” he said, describing the movie as both a cautionary tale and a source of encouragement for couples facing challenges that often go unnoticed by others.
According to the filmmaker, the story underscores the importance of forgiveness, understanding, faith, and intentional effort in sustaining healthy relationships. It also highlights the consequences of allowing unresolved issues from the past to interfere with present commitments. The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Felix Bankole, Yemi Bankole, Kayode Babalola, Eme Ekeng, Bosede Akinbade, Great Ineh, Edith Okaide, Mary Onuegbu, Elizabeth Fabunmi, and Olaide Olawoye, among others.
Filmed across locations in Nigeria and the United States, The Legal Wife presents themes that resonate beyond geographical boundaries. Its message reflects the universal nature of family struggles and the shared desire for lasting peace, trust, and stability within the home.
With its blend of faith, drama, and real-life lessons, the film adds to the growing body of Christian productions seeking to address contemporary social issues while offering hope and practical guidance to families around the world.
