The Albiceleste had submitted a special request ahead of the match, opting to move away from their traditional white and sky-blue striped shirts in favour of the navy blue strip, a colour deeply associated with some of the country's most memorable victories over England.
According to FIFA's official Match Colour Designation released on Monday, Lionel Messi and his teammates have been cleared to wear the navy blue shirts, complemented by white shorts and red socks. England, meanwhile, will play in their traditional all-white kit.
Argentina's decision is widely seen as an attempt to draw inspiration from history. The navy blue jersey was famously worn by the legendary Diego Maradona during Argentina's unforgettable victory over England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, a match remembered for both the controversial "Hand of God" goal and Maradona's brilliant solo strike.
The South Americans also wore the same colour when they knocked England out of the 1998 FIFA World Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout in the Round of 16.
With another high-stakes showdown between the two football rivals on the horizon, Argentina will hope the change of kit once again brings good fortune as they bid to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup final, while England look to spoil the champions' title defence and book their own place in the tournament's showpiece match.
