Popular content creator and relationship commentator Emmanuel Obruste, better known as GehGeh, has disclosed that the wedding ceremony that recently generated widespread attention online was not a real marriage but a carefully planned publicity stunt and social experiment.
The influencer sparked speculation across social media after videos surfaced showing him and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional outfits at what appeared to be a wedding ceremony. The clips quickly went viral, leading many fans to believe that GehGeh had secretly walked down the aisle.
The development also triggered criticism from some followers and fellow content creators, who accused him of going against the relationship principles he has consistently promoted online. Some family members were reportedly also surprised by the development, questioning why they were not informed or invited to the supposed ceremony.
However, speaking during an interview with StreamRewind, GehGeh clarified that the event was staged as part of a promotional effort and an attempt to observe public reactions.
“We organised everything as a normal promo. And so far, apart from the fact that we purposely did it, I still wanted to get the public’s reactions,” he said in Pidgin English.
The content creator explained that the stunt was also intended to address what he described as a misunderstanding surrounding the teachings associated with his online platform, GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University.
According to him, some people have interpreted his views as being completely against marriage because of his frequent discussions on relationships and heartbreak.
“Some people have a misunderstanding about my GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University. When you see some people, the major thing they have been saying is that GehGeh told them not to get married, but I got married,” he said.
GehGeh insisted that he has never advised people to completely avoid marriage, saying his argument has always focused on promoting polygamy instead of monogamous relationships.
“I did not kick against marriage. I said, ‘Do not marry, and even if you must marry, go for polygamy.’ This is because polygamy is the path that guides a man’s heart from heartbreak,” he said.
Defending his controversial position, the influencer argued that having multiple partners reduces the possibility of one person having excessive emotional control over another.
“Because when you are with different women, it will be hard for one woman to manipulate you. And this was what our forefathers practised. That is the core principle of my university,” he added.
The clarification comes after days of online debate surrounding the viral wedding videos, with many social media users questioning whether GehGeh had abandoned the relationship ideology that has become a major part of his public identity.
By revealing the ceremony was staged, the influencer said he wanted to highlight the assumptions people make about his teachings while also demonstrating how quickly public perception can change based on online content.
