The documentary, titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret," premiered on the BBC on Wednesday and examines allegations spanning more than a decade. According to the broadcaster, nine of the 10 women spoke publicly for the first time about their experiences.
The women alleged they interacted with Leto between 2002 and 2016, when the actor and musician was in his 30s and 40s. Leto is now 54 years old.
Among the most serious allegations presented in the documentary is the account of a woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom when she was 17. Another woman alleged that Leto threatened her with sexual assault after she was left alone with him in a hotel room at the age of 19.
A third woman claimed she had a sexual relationship with the actor in California when she was 17. According to the BBC, the allegation would amount to statutory rape under California law if proven. She alleged that after discussing the state's age of consent, Leto dismissed her concerns.
The documentary also includes allegations from another woman who claimed Leto made repeated sexually explicit telephone calls to her when she was 16 and, on one occasion, suggested they have sex. She further alleged that she later received a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) designed to prevent her from speaking publicly about their relationship but declined to sign it. The BBC reported that it reviewed the document.
According to the broadcaster, several of the women's accounts were corroborated by friends and family members they had confided in at the time. The investigation also cited photographs, text messages and other materials that it said supported portions of their claims.
The documentary further features interviews with two former associates of Leto's rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, who alleged that members of the band's team had expressed discomfort over the actor's interactions with teenage girls. They claimed some of the girls were invited backstage during concerts or to recording sessions.
Leto has categorically rejected all allegations made against him.
In a statement issued through his representatives after the documentary's release, the Academy Award-winning actor said, “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”
The latest allegations follow previous accusations made against the actor. In 2025, Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz publicly alleged that Leto assaulted her when she was 17, a claim that prompted other women to share similar experiences online. Leto also denied those allegations.
Known for his successful careers in both Hollywood and music, Leto won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club in 2014. His acting credits also include Fight Club, Blade Runner 2049 and Suicide Squad, while he continues to lead the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
According to the BBC, the band is scheduled to embark on a tour of the United Kingdom and mainland Europe next year.
The allegations contained in the documentary have not been tested in court, and Leto has continued to deny any wrongdoing.
