It was pomp and ceremony on
Wednesday, March 7 in Ikorodu, Lagos
when a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly,Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade,
representing Ikorodu 1 Constituency, rewarded outstanding students in his
constituency.
The event, which was tagged 'SOB
Best Brains Contest, took place at Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat along TOS Benson Road,
and it was highly successful.
The event was well attended by
over 134 students drawn from about 67 schools in the constituency. It was
chaired by former Lagos State Commissioner, Hon. Kaoni.
Speaking at the event, Hon.
Agunbiade said he was moved to organise the event as he was a beneficiary of
prize giving day ceremony in his primary school days.
He said the children were picked
based on their academic performances in their respective schools.
He also said that two best
students were drawn from Senior Secondary School II, Junior Secondary School II
and primary IV each from 67 schools in the constituency.
The 134 lucky children were made
to go through written exams in Mathematics, English Language and General
Papers.
Best SSS, JSS and Primary school
students went home with 50,000 naira, 30,000 naira for the second place, while
the third placed student took 20,000 naira.
Student from fourth position to
tenth went home with consolation prize of 5,000 naira each. Students who came
top in each of the three papers were given 10,000 naira.
Best schools also went home with
trophies and a plague, each of the participating 134 students was given 10
pieces exercise books. The best SSS student also got external exams
registration payment by Hon. Agunbiade.
Nwafor Okene of Muslim Primary School,
Ikorodu, who came top in the primary school category, went home with N70, 000
as he also came top in both Mathematics and English Language.
Oloruntade Ganiu of Ipakodo Grammar School,
Ikorodu came top in the JSS category, while Omotosho Esther of Odogunyan Senior Grammar School,
Ikorodu went home with over a N100,000.
Hon. Agunbiade said all the
monies won above N10,000 naira would be paid into a Skye Bank account opened in
the beneficiaries name. This he said will make it impossible for parents to
misuse such monies.
Guests at the event included Wale
Elesho, former Commissioner for Information under Asiwaju Bola Tinubu's
administration.
