Former military President, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB,
has given his nod to the newly formed mega party, All Progressive Congress,
APC, comprising the major opposition parties in Nigeria.
The Minna, Niger State-based retired army general, while
answering questions from journalists on Thursday, said he has been vindicated
on his stand on a two-party system in Nigeria he advocated while he was a
military President.
IBB was speaking during a courtesy call by members of the
Governing Council of the National Examinations Council, NECO, led by its
chairman, Dr Paddy Kemdi Njoku.
“I was a very good advocate of a two party system,” IBB
maintained, adding that “when I said the nation should operate a two party
system during my tenure as military President, you said no and that I am a
soldier and an idiot.”
He further noted that, “but now you are seeing reasons why I
advocated that and I think you are seeing reasons why I said so. I think I am
happy at the new development because it is working for the nation’s political
development.”
