There is presently a crack in
popular gospel music group; Midnight Crew. The group, which consists of four
young singers, may soon obey the law of elasticity if pressing issues are not
quickly and amicably resolved by the singers and their associates.
Sources close to the
award-winning music group reliably informed us that all is not well with the
group. There are efforts to keep the internal crisis away from the public,
especially the press, but with the way things are going, the issues may soon go
out of hands.
Those who should know divulged
that the main cause of the brouhaha is the solo careers being pursued by two of
the four singers in the group; Mike Abdul and Patricia Uwaje-King.
Though the two are quick to tell
people that all is well with the group, those who know them too well maintained
that Pat's and Mike's claims don't hold water.
“Other members of the group
became unhappy when Mike started featuring for different artistes,” a source
said.
Giving insight on why Mike took
the step, the source said, “Mike took the step, when people started insinuating
that Pat was the only active member of the group, while the three others were
just passive members.
“Their hit song, 'Igwe', which
Pat virtually single-handedly sang all through, made people think that way.
Others were not too happy about what people were saying. It touched them, and
this got Mike into action. Now, he has finally made a statement for himself,
but it is not the same case for Gbenga and Odun[ayo],” a source narrated to us.
Another source said that Mike now
has a single he is pushing very hard. The single is entitled; 'Morire', which
features Monique, while Pat has 'Eze' her own new solo effort.
“Now, the other two; Gbenga
Oyebola and Odunayo Ojo, seem not to be happy about the development, but what
can they do?,” one of our sources asked.
“When the group was formed in
2001, they never believed it would become a big brand it has become today. Now,
none of them really wants to drop the brand. They still want to stick to the
brand even after pursuing their solo careers,” another source told us.
“They are just trying to manage
the situation, but I can categorically tell you that all is not well with
Midnight Crew,” a friend of the group, who begged for anonymity, told us.
We were also told that the group
is presently in the United States of America on a music tour. They also hope to
embark on a European tour in 2014 if they are still together.
When contacted, the manager of
the group, who identified himself as Modupe, told us that there is no crisis in
the group.
He said, “the only truth is that
each member of the group will pursue their solo careers. It (the solo careers
of Mike and Pat) will [surely] raise an alarm, but it is part of the marketing
strategy. They are presently in America.”
