In October 2012, Nigeria’s 10 year old Daniella Okoye
made Nigeria proud in far away Turkey when she emerged the Little Princess of
the Universe Beauty Contest held in that country. She defeated other beautiful
and intimidating pretty little damsels that left their various countries for
Turkey for the pageant, and little Daniella has been enjoying the spotlights
since she came back into the country.
Children celebrities are not common in
this part of the world unlike like in America, where children celebs also enjoy
what older public figures enjoy.
Speaking with First
Weekly in a chat last week at an
event, the extremely charming little queen spoke about how she won the crown
and how she has made herself humble so as not to scare her school mates,
especially the boys who may be intimidated by her new status as the pageant is
another version of Miss World though this is strictly for children..
Introduce yourself to those who don’t know you
My name is Daniella Okoye and I am 10 years old.
What beauty queen are you
I am the Little Princess of the Universe
Where and when did you win the pageant
I won the crown in Turkey on October 27, 2012.
How has the experience been since then
It has been good; I am happy and excited about it all. I have also been
very humble to a lot of people since I became a queen.
How do you relate with your friends at school
I mix with them freely and I also advise them that they are also princes
and princesses just like me.
Are the boys in your school scared of mixing with you
Not at all, I relate with them as friends, they are not scared of me.
How do older celebs treat and relate with you
Well, they have been very nice and good to me. They show the excitement
in seeing me and sometimes say ‘hello little princess.’
I’m aware you have met the present MBGN queen
Yea, we met some days ago and she was very happy to see me. We shared
contacts and she expressed joy in meeting me.
Are you learning from her
Yes, I am learning from her. I am learning to be humble.
Do you have pet projects
Yes, I recently visited a home of the less privileged people in
Surulere, Lagos.
Do you hope to be a Miss World in future
Sure, I do.
What’s your advice to your contemporaries
My advice
to them is that they should respect their parents, especially when they win any
awards or pageants like mine. They should just be humble.
