    Lagos, Ogun, Osun to Represent S-West at NNPC Quiz

    Three secondary   school students from Lagos, Osun, and Ogun states, who emerged successful from the South-West zone in the 2018 Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Science quiz competition, will represent their states at the grand finale of the competition in September this year.

    This was disclosed by the Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, at the Wesley College of Science, Ibadan where the competition was held.

    Six states in the zone- Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo participated in the competition. All three students, Owoseeni Oreoluwa from Destiny International College, Osogbo, Osun State; Ezeunala Ekene-Franklin from Meiran Community Senior High School, Meiran, Lagos State and Igban Emmanuel from the Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State scored 55 each to emerge the best among other contestants. Ughamadu, who was represented by Mrs. Iyabo Ayobami Ojo said: “We are all striving to do our part to build capable leaders who can lead our nation into tomorrow.
    Nevertheless, our chief partners are you students contesting in the quiz.” As you battle it out in English and the core science subjects of Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, know that you are working with NNPC to build our country. You are the leaders of tomorrow and you need the tools this competition is providing to steer the Nigerian ship.

    Of the 37 of you who emerged from the recently concluded state competitions and will compete in the different zones across the country, 14 are from government schools while 23 are from private schools and there are a total of five females. To all of you, I say rest assured that NNPC is with you all the way.” The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Prof Niyi Olowofela highlighted the success recorded in West African Examination by students in Oyo state. According to him, this year’s WAEC results showed remarkable improvement noting that the state recorded 54.4 percent as against 4 percent and 11 percent recorded in 1999 and 2011 respectively.
