    Krispy Kreme in talk with Regulators Over Store Closure

    QFA Nigeria Limited, a premium food outlets operator, including Krispy Kreme Confectionery, has stated in a press statement that its fully cooperating with authorities in addressing concerns of product expiry date tampering without regulatory approval in its outlet in Victoria Island, Lagos.

    In a statement released by the company through its franchise operator, QFA Nigeria Limited, the company said it is fully cooperating with authorities in addressing concerns of product expiry date tampering without regulatory approval in its Victoria Island, Lagos store.
    QFA Nigeria Ltd further said it “is committed to supporting the various regulatory bodies, including CPC and NAFDAC.

    “Both regulators therefore agree that there is a vital consumer interest that will be served with Krispy Kreme’s ability to reopen and continue operations within the parameters approved by the regulators,” the statement said.
    The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had shut down the doughnut and coffee house on 8th August over alleged tampering of expiry dates on raw material ingredients used in the store. The Director-General of the CPC, Mr Tunde Irukere, was among the team that closed down the business.

    Krispy Kreme Doughnut Company is an American-based firm that entered the Nigerian market in March of 2018. The Nigerian operation is being managed by Quality Foods Africa (QFA), the franchisee which has signed a development agreement with the owners of Krispy Kreme to open 20 stores in Nigeria in the next five years.
    Krispy Kreme noted it has invested $7 million in its Nigerian operation and will be offering consumers 16 different varieties of doughnuts as well as Nigerian blended coffee.
