Spacecom Signs Contract with Nigeria’s IDS Africa

Spacecom, an Isreali satellite communications operator, and the operator of AMOS-3 and AMOS-7 satellites has announced its partnership with IDS Africa, a Nigeria-based broadcaster. IDS Africa will broadcast services on the AMOS-17 satellite, Spacecom’s newest satellite.

The AMOS-17 is currently set for launch to its orbital position of 17°E in August 2019. IDS Africa will use the new satellite to broadcast Channels TV news programming throughout Nigeria, as well as the Nigerian population and diaspora outside the Nigerian borders.
The AMOS-17 satellite, according to Spacecom, is designed to meet Africa’s fast-moving communication demands. The company has also stated that the satellite’s payload will be Africa’s most technologically-advanced satellite.

The AMOS-17 will aim to provide C-Band HTS capabilities, Ka-Band and Ku-Band to a number of different markets. The satellite will also aim to combine broad regional beams and high throughput spot beams in order to maximize throughput and spectral efficiency with the goal of connecting Europe, The Middle East and Africa.

“We are very much looking forward to using AMOS-17’s beams to broadcast Channels TV to our audiences here in Nigeria and abroad. The satellite’s power will enable our entertainment and messages to be easily picked up and enjoyed by our audiences,” said Toyin Ogunlade from IDS Africa. “AMOS-17 will service Nigeria as well as the rest of Sub-Sahara Africa.

One of the prime markets we are targeting is that of [the] broadcast. We are looking forward to broadcasting IDS Africa’s content and to working closely with their team,” said Jacob Keret, Senior VP Sales and Marketing at Spacecom.
