    Nigeria Records 18 Additional Deaths 1,572 New COVID-19 Infections

    While it looks like the COVID-19 situation in Nigeria seems to be under control at the moment, the country has witnessed a fresh spike in new cases.

    Nigeria on Tuesday reported 1,572 fresh COVID-19 cases within a span of 24 hours, raising the total number of cases registered so far to 148,500. The number of cases reported today is higher than the 574 cases reported on Monday.

    While the death toll due to coronavirus has increased to 1,779 after 18 fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours.

    And at least 1,914 patients recovered, were discharged from isolation centers across the country, according to updated data released late Tuesday on the  Nigeria Centre for Disease Control’s Twitter handle. The total number of people who have been discharged after recovery now stands at 124,923.

    The newly recorded infections were reported across 28 states and the Federal Capital Territory. 

    A breakdown of cases by state, Anambra witnessed a spike in the new cases, leads the chart with 344 infections, followed by Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in the country - recorded 204 infections, Oyo which also witnessed a rise in COVID-19 cases after recorded 172 infections  and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory in forth position confirmed 148 infections, according to NCDC.

    Also, about 107 of the virus were found in Benue state, Rivers had 95, Ogun-59, Ondo-56, Ebonyi-53. Kaduna-52, Plateau-46, Kwara-36 and Enugu-30.

    Akwa Ibom reported 26 cases of the virus on Tuesday, while Osun had 22, Edo-20, Abia-17, Kano-16, Borno-15, Cross River-10, Delta-8, Gombe-8, Imo-7, Ekiti-5, Sokoto-4, Jigawa-3, Bayelsa-3, Nasarawa-3 and Zamfara-3.

    The health agency noted that the discharged recorded on Tuesday includes 762 community recoveries in Anambra State, 132 in Plateau State & 126 in FCT.

    Also stated that data from Enugu State reported over the last two days. And a backlog of deaths reported from Abia State.
