This
feature comes first and exclusive for China as of writing, as it is still
unclear whether other regions would receive the software update.
The popular electric vehicle manufacturer and clean energy
company, Tesla, has introduced a new feature and application for its EV's
infotainment system, which would be joining Spotify, and other app streaming
platforms. Arguably, TikTok is one of China's most popular application that
gained global recognition for its interactive interface and massive network.
TikTok is also one of the most controversial applications of
2020 after it was threatened for a shutdown by the United States government,
which suspected it of spying on Americans, saying that it is under the Chinese
military. Initially, it was required by the country to be sold to a US company
for stakes in the country, which had ties with the Oracle Corporation.
According to Electrek, Tesla China has recently released a
report on Chinese social media, Weibo, that introduces two new applications for
its infotainment system on software update version 2021.4.5 in the region. The
integration of Douyin (TikTok's China name) and QQ Music comes with better
voice recognition for the Chinese language in the country.
The update also comes with a major holiday in the Asian
country as it joins the celebration of the Chinese New Year, which is also
known as the "Lunar New Year." The Weibo post said that "New
Year of the Ox" would bring an upgrade for Tesla EVs in the country,
integrating the widely popular TikTok on the platform for users to stream
content.
Tesla China has released a video that demonstrates and shows
the public what is new in the software update and how TikTok would work on the
electric vehicle's Infotainment System. The TikTok application could only stream
videos, add comments, heart, and save them, without the actual recording of
video and upload function in the application.
Tesla China has received several applications and features
from the company first before the rest of the world and this might be the same
case with TikTok. However, there is no news or details regarding TikTok coming
to Tesla North America and other regions as of now, as the app could be
exclusive for the Chinese region only.
Recently, Tesla China is a massive region of the clean energy
company, as it was tasked to create the cheap Tesla EV that would only cost
$25,000 and be released globally. It is worth noting that there are Model Y and
Model 3 that has been sold to the EU region that came from China, and Elon Musk
highly recognizes the Chinese division of the company.
