His death has been confirmed by filmmaker Kunle Afolayan
with whom he worked recently on the 2020 motion picture, Citation. According to
Afolayan, the ace broadcaster died on the evening of Wednesday, March 3rd.
Afolayan said he spoke with his wife and son who confirmed
his passing to him.
In 2017, Daba announced that he was diagnosed of leukemia
and prostate cancer. Many Nigerians including billionaire Femi Otedola donated
money for his treatment abroad and gave out-pouring support on social media. He
would later be among the crusaders who walk against cancer.
Daba made waves in the 1980s on Nigerian Television
Authority (NTA).
His acting career came to prominence in the late 1970s for
his role in ‘Cock Crow at Dawn,’ a NTA drama series.
He was very prominent in most of the 80s and 90s soap operas
such as 'Behind the Cloud', 'A Place Like Home' and featured in most
Nollywood's early offerings such as 'Nightmare'. In 2014, Kunle Afolayan cast
him as Inspector Danladi Waziri in his award-winning blockbuster 'October 1'.
The movie fetched Daba an Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor the
following year.
