Graeme Souness and Roy Keane felt Sadio Mane was ‘disrespectful’ and ‘out of order’ for shunning Jurgen Klopp’s handshake after Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Manchester United.
Roy Keane has given his opinion after Sadio Mane appeared to snub Jurgen Klopp at full time after Liverpool’s win over Manchester United.
The Reds secured a 4-2 victory at Old Trafford on Thursday
night, keeping their hopes of securing a top four finish alive.
Mane was benched for the game, with Diogo Jota starting in
his place on the left wing who ended up scoring Liverpool’s first goal of the
contest.
Roberto Firmino scored a goal either side of half time to
hand the Reds the advantage, while Mohamed Salah bagged a fourth in stoppage
time to take his tally for season to 30 in all competitions.
Klopp went over to Mane, who came on for Jota in the second
half, for his usual post-game hug - but Mane refused the offer.
The Senegal international was visibly annoyed, but Klopp
said in his post-match press conference that the situation was “all fine”.
Klopp added: "Yes, I made a late decision in training,
really late and changed Diogo for Sadio. And the players are used to that, I
explain that, but I didn't do that properly or whatever.
"And in that moment for a Premier League game, Sadio
was obviously not too happy, that is all."
Former Man United captain Keane, who was working as a pundit
on Thursday night, gave his reaction to Mane snubbing his manager.
“The player is out of order," Keane told Sky Sports.
“But when I was a player I didn’t want the manager coming on
giving me high fives. If we'd won the league, maybe, but even then I'd be
doubtful.
"If he sees the player's upset, just back away. It's
bad enough your manager, but the opposition manager going round and giving
everyone high fives."
Former Liverpool skipper Graeme Souness also echoed the
initial aspect of Keane’s comments, saying that Mane was “disrespectful” to
Klopp.
“‘Disrespectful. If I was the manager I wouldn’t be happy,’
said Souness.
“‘He should show a bit of respect. It’s disrespectful to the
manager and the club.
“How can he argue? He’s not had a great season and Liverpool
have won here 4-2.”
