After a year full of issues plaguing the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a, Google announced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in October. While the last few months were going fine for the two latest Pixels, an issue plaguing the Pixel 7 has surfaced, leaving customers in despair.
A number of Pixel 7 users on the internet have complained
about the rear camera glass, or basically, the lens cracking out of the blue.
Some users on Twitter and Reddit shared images of their Pixel 7, showing the
crack over the rear camera glass.
What Pixel 7 users have to say
One Pixel 7 user, Heydon Faber, took to Twitter to show the
damage, and he says that he has not dropped the phone and still the camera lens
has cracked.
The user writes in the tweet, “Not even a month, no drops
just regular use. Have a case on the phone. Been told It's my problem. Is this
really the quality control backed by google? It's clearly a manufacturing
defect, and I know I'm not the only one. Please fix this google!"
The user in the tweet is referencing other complaints which
highlight the same issue of camera lens shattering suddenly.
"I pulled my phone out of my pocket and the back camera
glass was broken. I must have hit a corner while it was in my pocket. Has
anyone else had this problem? I called around to the phone fixing stores and
nobody has the replacement parts yet.
Don't really want to have to mail this phone in to have it
fixed as it's currently the only phone I have," writes a user on Reddit.
Last month, a user reported the same issue whose Pixel 7 had
a crack over the ultrawide camera, and the glass was coming off. He further
adds that, he had the case on, and still the lens broke.
Another user on Reddit shared the same problem with his
Pixel 7. The person reached out to a repair store, and he was told that the
whole back panel needed to be replaced, costing him around $200.
However, the user shared the pictures of his Pixel 7 with
Google, and the company offered him a free replacement. Although, other users
have not received any such replacement from Google.
We have not noticed any such issue with our unit of Pixel 7
or the Pixel 7 Pro till now.
