At the PlayStation Showcase today, Remedy Entertainment has finally revealed Alan Wake 2’s release date and shown off a new trailer featuring Alan Wake and what appears to be a new playable protagonist as well.
Announced at the end of 2021, the long-awaited sequel to
Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment’s famed 2010 title “Alan Wake” has
set an October 17th release date.
Revealed as part of Sony’s PlayStation showcase today, a new
trailer also showed off gameplay from the title and confirms you won’t just be
playing Wake but also a female FBI agent investigating a case which ties to
Wake’s disappearance.
The original “Alan Wake” was remastered last year for PS5
& Xbox Series X|S consoles and follows the best-selling Stephen King-style
novelist as he tries to uncover the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance
during a vacation in the small fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington.
So begins a terrifying journey through the heavily forested volcanic lake town where loggers, miners, and even the local fauna have become possessed by a dark presence that can only be vanquished by torchlight.
Blending elements of King, Lovecraft and episodic
television, the original game drew much acclaim for Remedy, who went on to
create “Quantum Break” and game-of-the-year winner “Control” which are set in
the same universe as ‘Wake’.
“Control” boasted DLC which acts as something of a mini-story
between the original “Alan Wake” and this new one which takes on more of a
survival horror vibe than the original.
