The two-day exercise took the governor and his
representatives across seven schools in Agege, Ijaiye, Alimosho, Kosofe and
Ikorodu Local Councils.
In each of the seven schools, 18 new classroom blocks, built
by the state’s Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS)
were commissioned to boost learning activities.
Speaking at Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, yesterday,
the governor said the exercise was part of the state’s commitment to the
provision of a conducive environment for learning and improving teaching in
public schools.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for
Economic Planning and Budget, Samuel Egube, noted that education and technology
were major pillars of his THEME’s agenda.
The classrooms, he said, contained laboratories, principal
and vice principal en-suite officers, staff rooms, sickbay, a store and 36
cubicle toilets for male and female students.
Egube noted that the Lagos State government’s investment in
the education sector and the future of our children has continued to yield
desired outcomes through the huge performances of Lagos state public school
students and pupils in national examinations and competitions.
According to him, the facilities will address the challenges
and inadequacy of existing infrastructure and put the education sector to
global standard for effective learning and teaching, assuring students and teachers
of doing more projects in the second tenure.
Also, at Kosofe Senior College, Kosofe, the governor,
through the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Olalere Odusote,
tasked the students and teachers to take ownership of the projects.
At Alimosho Junior Grammar School, Alimosho, where the
students were filled with excitement, Sanwo-Olu, represented by the
Commissioner for Youths and Sport, Segun Dawodu, said the commissioning is part
of the activities to celebrate the inauguration of the new administration,
which comes up on May 29, 2023.
He said it was an affirmation of his administration’s
commitment to the provision of a conducive environment to learning and teaching
in the public schools, noting that its a major delivery under the education and
technology pillar of the THEME’s agenda, which the administration has shown
commitment and dedication to its implementation of the four years.
Dawodu noted that Lagos State government investment in the
education sector and the future of our children has continued to yield the
desired outcome through the huge performances of Lagos State public school
students and pupils in national examinations and competition.
According to him, the facilities will address the challenges

Dawodu enjoined students, management and teachers of the
school to take adequate care of the facilities, which has been provided with
taxpayer money.
Principal of the School, Mrs. Charity Adewale, thanked the
governor for the construction of 18 classroom blocks and pledged to maintain
the building.
At Government Girls Senior College, Agege, the governor,
represented by Commissioner of Agriculture,
Olusanya Abisola said the commissioning was to address
inadequate existing infrastructure in Lagos schools.
He stressed that his administration will patronise the
welfare and capacity of the schools to improve the students.
The governor urged the students and teachers to take
ownership of the project.
In her remarks, the school principal, Mrs. Olusola Alamu,
extolled the governor for increased budgetary allocation to education in the
state .
Earlier, Chairman of SCRPS, Hakeem Smith, emphasised the
commitment of the Lagos State government to invest hugely in the education
sector, thereby ensuring that public schools wear new look to enhance teaching
and learning.
Smith noted that a testimony of Mr. Governors’ commitment to
quality education is the marathon commissioning of new blocks of classrooms in
about eight public schools this week.
He stated that the government is embarking on the
commissioning of schools\projects, new roads, and jetties are being inaugurated
simultaneously to boost the transportation system in the state.
He hinted that SCRPS intervention is spread across the six
education districts of the state, stressing that the Sanwo-Olu administration’s
commitment to revamp the infrastructure in Lagos public schools is total, as no
child will be left behind.
He said: “Those school buildings being commissioned were
constructed in different designs such as I-shape and a L-shape depending on the
availability of space in the schools.
“We have 18 classrooms prototype blocks in six schools and a
12-classroom block.
“The newly commissioned blocks of classrooms are situated in
Government Senior College, Agege, Alimosho Junior Grammar School, Alimosho,
Ijaiye Ojokoro Senior High School, Ifako-ijaiye, Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior
Secondary School, ifako- ijaiye, Kosofe Senior College, Kosofe, Elepe Community
Junior High School and Shamsel-deen Junior Grammar School in Ikorodu.”
Meanwhile, residents and commuters have heaved a sigh of
relief as Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu, formally commissioned the
constructed Akesan-Obadore road in Alimosho Local Council of the state.
Sanwo Olu, who was represented at the event by the Special
Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Aramide Adeyoye, said the rehabilitated
road would improve connectivity, living conditions of the people across the
state, boost trade and commerce, as well as ensure the safety of the commuters
and road users.
The governor said over 19 projects had been completed in the
last four years in Alimosho, because of what the council represents in Lagos
State.
He said: “We still have 11 other road projects that is
ongoing and we promise to do more and fulfill it all.”
Also, Permanent Secretary, Office of infrastructure, Daramola
Olufemi Olubunmi, said the occasion represented another testament to the
state’s unwavering commitment to transforming communities through the provision
of quality infrastructure that enhance the well being of the citizens and fuel
economic growth.
“The project is another attestation of great achievements of
the governor under the traffic management and transportation pillar.
“We have consistently made significant strides in
rehabilitating existing roads, expanding vital highways and constructing pivotal
arterial roads and bridges”
“Akesan-Obadore road is very strategic as it serves as a
major thoroughfare connecting the densely populated Akesan/Obadore community to
the LASU-Iba road.
The state G has strategically provided an alternate route
for commuters in Ijegun, Ijagemo, Abaranje and other areas to connect to LASU
road,” she added.
On his part, the Oba of Akesan, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Oba
Nojeemdeen Abidemi Ogunjobi, thanked the governor for the completion of the
project.
He said the road has remained a colonial relic, until the
governor came to their rescue his tenure to rehabilitate the road.
He urged the governor to do more for the community by
building modern schools, health centres, markets and police station for the
Akesan/Obadore community.
