Addressing a viral video that raised concerns about the
alleged neglect of the woman by the government, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle, the
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, stated that Folakemi was not
overlooked when she sought medical assistance for her condition.
In response to the video, Dr. Adekunle revealed that the
government had requested Folakemi to provide her medical records before they
could proceed with her case.
According to the statement released by the ministry, “Mrs.
Folakemi wasn’t overlooked when she sought medical assistance for her goitre,
but was rather requested to provide her record of procedure for medical
assistance before the State Government could take charge.” The statement also
highlighted that an unknown NGO had influenced Folakemi to seek funds in Lagos
for her medical operation, despite the Osun State Government’s offer to perform
the surgery free of charge.
While in Lagos, Folakemi did not undergo the surgery but
chose to use the donated funds to support her business instead.
Dr. Adekunle emphasized that the State Government had reassured Folakemi and her family that the surgery could still be conducted without any cost. He also stated that, as she had decided to return to Osun for the surgery, her previous medical records and family consent were still necessary for the government to proceed with her case.
