Elon Musk said on Thursday his artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI is rolling out ChatGPT competitor Grok for Premium+ subscribers of social media platform X.
Grok, a new AI-powered chatbot developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI startup, has officially launched on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter.
XAI’s chatbot Grok began rolling out to the X Premium Plus subscribers in the United States. Premium Plus is a subscription plan that costs $16 per month and offers ad-free access to the social network, aside from access to an AI chatbot. The rollout will begin with longtime subscribers and will be rolled out to all the Premium+ subscribers within this week.
Gork can be accessed from the X side menu on the web, iOS, and Android smartphones, and can be added to the bottom menu in X’s mobile apps for quicker access.
It is similar to that of ChatGPT and Google’s Bard AI models, a chatbot that answers your questions. The chatbot is powered by XAI’s Grok-1 large language model, which is trained on data from the web up to Q3 2023 and feedback from human assistants. The chatbot can also incorporate real-time data from posts on X into its responses. Elon Musk, in his tweet earlier, noted that the real-time access of Gork is a “massive advantage” over other models.
Grok is currently limited to understanding only text and cannot comprehend the content of images or videos. However, xAI has expressed its intention to improve the underlying model to enable Grok to handle other modalities, such as audio and video.
Musk has also talked about the "bit of wit" and the rebellious nature of Gork. The chatbot is also willing to answer "spicy questions" that other AI chatbots may not entertain.
