Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has described Afropop singer and songwriter Yemi Alade as Nigeria’s most valuable cultural ambassador.
The 62-year-old hailed the award-winning musician in a
Facebook post on Tuesday after her first time performance at the opening
ceremony of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In addition to calling Yemi the most valuable cultural
ambassador, Patrick Doyle stated that she deserves a national honour.
“Behold, Nigeria’s most valuable cultural ambassador. Yemi
Alade is nothing short of a national treasure, she deserves a national honour,
he wrote with a photo of the singer.
While announcing her performance, Yemi Alade said she has
desired to perform at the stadium since 2016 and her dream has finally come
true.
“I can’t buttress the importance of prayer and speaking into
existence your heart desires. Since 2016, I have desired to perform at the
stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by 100’s of dancers and millions of
people. A lot of calls came in almost every year when football championship
preparations were made, but none was favourable.
“I never said this, but at some point, I started feeling
like my team was chasing them away, but something told me to. let them do their
job.7YEARS AFTER, I’m PERFORMING AT AFCON. IT’S INDEED AN HONOUR, A DREAM COME
TRUE and it’s just the beginning!! God bless my team and most especially
Jehovah; the captain of my ship that never …fails. Keep praying and working
towards your goal. NA WHO STOP E DEY STOP FOR!! Na mouth wey dey open dey
chop,” she wrote on X.
