Renowned Nigerian filmmaker and producer, Zeb Ejiro, is set to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming 2024 Nigerian Week in London.
The Nigerian Week Is an annual week-long international
festival held in London, United Kingdom. It combines entertainment and business
events, providing a platform for cultural exchange and economic opportunities.
In an invitation extended to the producer of the 1996
blockbuster movie, “Domitila,” obtained by journalists in Abuja on Sunday, the
award is in recognition of Ejiro’s significant contributions to Nollywood and
the entertainment industry as a whole.
The event, scheduled from July 22 to July 28, is organized
by SRTV London in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and
National Orientation, Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, Nigerian Films
Corporation, and the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria (AMP), among
others.
The festival serves as a platform to showcase and promote
the finest Nigerian products, services, and businesses. Additionally, it
celebrates the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Nigeria.
This event offers a diverse range of entertainment options,
including music, dance performances, fashion shows, culinary experiences,
exhibitions, a trade fair, investment opportunity workshops, and a summit.
Visitors are invited to participate and immerse themselves in the local culture
and gain firsthand knowledge.
The 2024 festival will feature a variety of exciting
activities, including an Afrobeat music extravaganza, a moonlight film festival
showcasing the best of African cinema, and a Nigerian fashion show and
competition.
Additionally, there will be a cultural display featuring the
National Troupe and a trade exhibition showcasing Nigerian cash crops,
agricultural produce, and various other attractions.
Zeb Ejiro, the renowned Nigerian filmmaker hailing from
Isoko, Delta State, is the sibling of Chico Ejiro, a seasoned filmmaker and
producer who regrettably passed away in 2020.
Zeb Ejiro was honored with the National Honour of Officer of
the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2005 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in
appreciation of his substantial contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
The acclaimed Sheik of Nollywood has the following films to
his credit; Nneka the Pretty Serpent (1994), Domitila (1996), Sakobi the Snake
Girl (1998) and Mortal Sin (2003).
Others are; Extreme Measure (2003), A Night in the
Philippines 1 and 2 (2005), Yellow Cassava (2016), Pure Honey (2017) and
Domitila: the Sequel (2017).
Zeb Ejiro is the mastermind behind the longest-standing
drama series aired on NTA during the 1990s, 'Ripples', which is now being
broadcasted again on DSTV.
