The social media platform Bluesky has reported a significant increase in user registrations in the United Kingdom over the past few days, indicating that Elon Musk's contentious remarks regarding the nationwide riots have led individuals to seek alternatives to X.

According to an emailed statement from the company on Monday, Bluesky experienced a 60% rise in overall activity from UK accounts, with several Members of Parliament also recently joining the platform.

Musk has faced criticism for intensifying tensions following several days of far-right rioting in Britain, which was incited by online misinformation concerning the murder of three girls in northern England last month.

The CEO of Tesla utilized his platform to disseminate misleading information to his millions of followers, including a post that suggested a civil war in Britain was "inevitable," which prompted a response from Prime Minister Keir Starmer and ignited calls for the government to expedite the implementation of laws regulating online content.

"For 5 out of the last 7 days, the UK had the highest number of Bluesky signups of any country," stated Bluesky, a relatively new entrant in the social media arena.

The billionaire, originally from South Africa and a U.S. citizen since 2002, has shifted towards right-wing politics in recent years and has publicly supported Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election.

Bluesky is among numerous applications attempting to fill the void left by X following Elon Musk's tumultuous acquisition of the platform in late 2022.

The application was established by Jack Dorsey, the original founder of Twitter, during his tenure at the social media enterprise. Its structure resembles that of X, featuring a similar timeline layout.

However, Bluesky aims to promote greater transparency, enabling individuals outside the organization to observe its development processes and ongoing projects.

As of July, Bluesky reported approximately 688,568 monthly active users, a small fraction compared to X's user base of 76.9 million, as indicated by data from Similarweb, a digital market intelligence firm.
