The Lagos State Government has declared that starting Monday, August 12, 2024, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line will increase its daily trips from 54 to 72.

In conjunction with this announcement, the government has introduced a 25 percent fare discount for commuters traveling during the designated off-peak hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

A statement from the state Ministry of Information and Strategy, provided to our correspondent on Saturday, indicated that the current Sunday operation schedule will remain unchanged.

Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, revealed that the travel time for Blue Line train passengers between Marina and Mile 2 will now be approximately 18 minutes, reduced from the previous 25 minutes.

This adjustment means that trains will operate every 18 minutes in both directions, facilitating better trip planning for commuters. Additionally, Akinajo reiterated the 25 percent fare discount for off-peak travel.

The revised train schedule is anticipated to shorten journey times, promote increased ridership during off-peak hours, and lower transportation costs. Updated timetables can be accessed on the LAMATA website, at stations, and through social media platforms.

It is noteworthy that the Blue Rail Line began passenger operations on September 4, 2023, and has successfully transported nearly two million passengers.
