Students at the University of Ibadan organized a demonstration in response to the administration's decision to raise tuition fees.

They voiced their worries regarding the affordability of education and demanded the reversal of the fee increase.

This was highlighted in a statement and video shared by a media figure known as #EmisoLJ on X.com, accompanied by the hashtag #FeesMustFall on Friday.

The statement read, “Ongoing protest by University of Ibadan students over tuition fee increments from 25k to 76k to 146k – 412k within two years.

“The resistance is gathering momentum. #FeesMustFall”

The footage depicted students marching toward the administrative building of the university while singing a song advocating for free education.

On Friday, students at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State initiated a new protest following the governing council's approval of a recent increase in fees.

The demonstrations, which commenced at midnight on Friday, were reportedly sparked by a circular released on Thursday by the council's secretary, G.O. Saliu.

This circular indicated that after a meeting on Thursday, the council had "considered the revised schedule of fees for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students for the 2023/2024 academic session and approved it as recommended by the university Senate."
