Caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen is aiming for a strong offensive performance in today’s 2025 AFCON qualifier in Rwanda, indicating potential adjustments to the Super Eagles' attacking lineup.
Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface faced challenges as the primary striker against Benin over the weekend and is likely to be replaced in the starting lineup.
Victor Osimhen has come to Boniface's defense, stating that he was “unlucky” in the match against the Cheetahs of Benin.
In light of this, both Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest and Kelechi Iheanacho of Sevilla are being readied to step in for Boniface.
During the Super Eagles' sole training session in Kigali, fitness trainer Tomaz Zorec put both Awoniyi and Iheanacho through additional drills to prepare them for today’s match.
Eguavoen is anticipated to retain the starting lineup from Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Benin while employing a 3-4-3 formation.
He has emphasized his determination to secure all three points today to solidify Nigeria’s path to the 2025 AFCON qualification.
“We play to win all the time because Nigerians expect their team to win all the time,” he remarked.
“And while we respect every opponent, we are not intimidated by any.
“Our goal for the match is to secure the three points.”
