Anthony Joshua has once again demonstrated his significant appeal by achieving a sell-out of the expanded Wembley Stadium for his upcoming IBF heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois on September 21.
The venue, which has been enlarged to host 96,000 spectators
due to exceptional demand, is now fully booked, paving the way for a memorable
evening in British boxing.
Originally designed for 90,000 attendees, Wembley Stadium's
capacity was increased to 96,000 following unprecedented ticket sales. This
adjustment has been made for prior events, notably when Tyson Fury's match
against Dillian Whyte attracted 94,000 fans in 2022.
This decision, announced by Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of
Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, underscores the tremendous
interest in the matchup, with fans eager to see the high-stakes encounter
between Joshua and Dubois.
For Dubois, this fight represents his first defense as the
IBF heavyweight champion, a title he acquired after Oleksandr Usyk vacated it.
Dubois is eager to capitalize on this chance and establish his dominance in the
heavyweight ranks.
“AJ has been the king for a long time, and we all know it.
On the night, I need to become a king-slayer,” he remarked.
Joshua, who is striving to reclaim a world title for the
third time, recognizes the significance of the challenge ahead, stating, the
goal is just to get through a successful training camp and then perform on the
night.
This event, part of Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh season, is set to
be a landmark occasion for boxing, not only because of the fight's high stakes
but also due to the anticipated record attendance at Wembley Stadium.
