Nigerian artist Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, widely recognized as Qing Madi, is poised to captivate audiences during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) in Algeria.
CANEX WKND serves as a premier platform for highlighting Africa's dynamic creative and cultural sectors. This year's event is scheduled to take place in Algiers from October 16 to 19, 2024.
The inaugural day will feature live performances from Madi, L’Opera d’Alger, Ofentse Pitse and Orchestra, Ghetto Kids, Sofiya Nzau, Qabaniso Molewezi, Xenson, Samira Brahmia, and Djamal Laroussi.
As stated by the organizers on Thursday, Madi is regarded as an “embodiment of the spirit of creative fusion that CANEX WKND celebrates.” Her musical style integrates African rhythms with global influences, aligning with the event’s theme: ‘One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World.’
Her performance is expected to highlight the rich diversity of African musical traditions.
Another notable Nigerian artist, Ayra Starr, will take the stage on October 17 during the CANEX WKND concert.
Additional performers include South Africa’s Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, known for their 2019 Amapiano album ‘Scorpion Kings.’The event will feature a wide array of activities, such as masterclasses focused on innovative financing, sports entrepreneurship, culinary innovation, and visual arts.
The CANEX Music Factory, led by South African producer Oskido, will offer a platform for singers, beatmakers, and musicians to record tracks and potentially contribute to the event’s upcoming release.
The Exhibition & Market and Fashion show will present the latest advancements in African design and fashion, while the Gastronomy section will entice food enthusiasts with exquisite African dishes.
The CANEX Book Factory Prize and CANEX Shorts Awards will recognize outstanding literary achievements and emerging filmmakers.
The event will also showcase The MANSA Digital Initiative, the Nigerian International Film Summit, Beyond the Scoreboard, Gastronomy Masterclasses, and a presentation of the Zuma Film Festival by the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), among other meticulously planned activities.
Registration for CANEX WKND 2024 is complimentary, but pre-registration is crucial to ensure participation. Furthermore, international delegates are required to register by September 30 to facilitate visa processing.
