In the resolution adopted on Thursday, the House voiced concerns that none of the 82 athletes representing the nation secured a medal.
The lawmakers criticized the substantial budget exceeding ₦12 billion allocated for the event, which resulted in no medals.
Additionally, the House called on President Bola Tinubu to set up a commission of inquiry focused on sports arbitration in Nigeria.
Recall that several sports stakeholders in the country have demanded a forensic investigation into Team Nigeria's disappointing performance at the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
For the eighth time in its Olympic history, Nigeria's athletes returned home empty-handed, failing to secure a single medal as their campaign in Paris came to an end.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games mirrored previous disappointing outings for Nigeria, reminiscent of the 1952 Helsinki, 1956 Melbourne, 1960 Rome, 1968 Mexico, 1980 Moscow, 1988 Seoul, and the 2012 London Games.
A segment of sports fans expressed their dismay over the absence of any podium finishes among the athletes competing in their respective events.
They emphasized the necessity for a detailed investigation into all aspects of the Games, from its planning stages to its conclusion.
Donatus Agu-Ejidike, Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, urged the National Assembly and other pertinent government bodies to initiate a forensic inquiry into Team Nigeria's lackluster performance at the Games.
He argued that such an investigation would provide decision-makers with crucial insights to prevent a recurrence in the future.
The Anambra-born sports philanthropist also criticized the administrative failures that resulted in the exclusion of certain athletes who were considered potential medalists prior to the Games.
He highlighted the importance of a thorough investigation to identify those responsible for the missed opportunities, particularly for athletes like Ofili, who dedicated years of hard work in preparation.
