This program directly responds to the pressing need for eye health services in the southeastern region, which, according to the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN), has the highest rates of eye defects and the lowest intervention rates in the nation.
Over the five-day event, participants underwent thorough screenings, surgical treatments, received eyeglasses, and benefited from post-operative care. Additionally, they were provided with food items, including Gino tomato pastes and spices, to help meet their nutritional needs.
Mr. Vincent Egbe, Managing Director of GBFoods Nigeria, stated, “Sustainability is central to our operations. Our dedication to the community is a crucial aspect of this initiative. By assisting individuals with cataracts in regaining their vision, we are not only enhancing their quality of life but also boosting their productivity, which ultimately contributes to greater prosperity in their communities.”
This initiative is in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), highlighting GB Foods’ commitment to improving community health through impactful interventions. Participants expressed deep appreciation for the chance to restore their sight and, in many instances, their independence.
GBFoods is committed to continuing its health promotion and community support efforts, reflecting the company’s mission to nourish lives beyond just food.
