During the enforcement operation, officials discovered a range of illegal pharmaceutical products, including counterfeit Ampiclox GSK imported from India, Postinor-2 contraceptives, Vega Plus 100, Claratem-QS, and Maloxine Tablets.
The shop, which is reportedly involved in the repackaging and distribution of these unauthorized drugs, represents a significant threat to public health.
NAFDAC indicated that as the investigation progressed, operatives uncovered evidence of Methamphetamine, commonly referred to as mkpuru mmiri, both within the shop and at other sites throughout the plaza.
When approached by the Department of State Services (DSS), the shop owner denied any involvement with the operation.
In a separate enforcement action at the Idumota Drug Market in Lagos, NAFDAC officials discovered a hidden cache of essential vaccines—including Yellow Fever, Dano Anti-Tetanus, Measles, and Diphtheria vaccines—concealed beneath a staircase.
Initial investigations indicated that the individual in question was engaged in the smuggling of vaccines to nearby West African nations, especially Liberia.
Authorities also found that the location was equipped with CCTV cameras, indicating a well-organized operation under constant monitoring. The suspect has been arrested and is presently in custody as inquiries proceed.
NAFDAC has reaffirmed its dedication to eradicating the distribution of counterfeit medications and protecting public health, cautioning those involved in illegal drug trafficking to cease their activities or confront severe legal consequences.
