Grammy-winning American singer Chris Brown has been released on bail by a London court following charges stemming from an alleged nightclub assault in 2023. The 36-year-old artist, who has not yet entered a plea, faces accusations of grievous bodily harm related to what prosecutors have described as an “unprovoked attack” on a music producer.

The incident allegedly took place at Tape, a high-profile nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, where Brown is said to have struck the producer with a tequila bottle. He was arrested last Thursday in Salford and had been held in custody since then. An initial bail request was denied on Friday before Southwark Crown Court approved conditional release at a hearing on Wednesday.

As part of the bail terms, Judge Tony Baumgartner ordered Brown to pay a substantial security fee—£4 million upfront, with an additional £1 million due within seven days. The total £5 million serves as a financial guarantee to ensure the singer's compliance with court orders and return for future proceedings. The judge noted that the amount could be forfeited if any conditions are breached.

Although Brown was not present at the hearing, the court confirmed that he will be allowed to continue with his planned world tour, which is set to kick off in Amsterdam on June 8. UK dates include major venues in Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, Glasgow, and London.

Other bail conditions include restrictions on Brown’s movement: he must reside at an address approved by the court, surrender his passport when not actively touring, refrain from contacting the alleged victim, avoid the Tape nightclub, and abstain from applying for international travel documents beyond what is necessary for performances.

Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, between performances at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He will appear alongside his co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu—also known as HoodyBaby—a 38-year-old American performer.

The artist, known for chart-topping hits like Run It, Loyal, and Under the Influence, has faced legal scrutiny in the past but continues to maintain a global fanbase. This latest case could have significant implications for both his career and public image as the legal process unfolds.
