Speaking at a press conference in Copenhagen, SAS CEO Anko van der Werff confirmed a firm commitment for 45 E195-E2 jets, with options for an additional 10. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2027. The airline highlighted the aircraft’s capacity and range as key advantages, describing the type as well-suited to support its network strategy by enabling more frequencies and lower trip costs.
The E195-E2 is the largest member of Embraer’s next-generation E2 family of regional jets, seating up to 146 passengers. It competes with models such as the Airbus A220 in the market segment just below the larger single-aisle aircraft offered by Airbus and Boeing. Though smaller in scale, this segment remains fiercely competitive, with carriers focused on efficiency and flexibility.
Analysts have viewed the SAS order as an important endorsement of Embraer’s product line. JPMorgan, which maintains an “Overweight” rating on the company, said the deal confirms the strength of Embraer’s ongoing sales campaigns and growing backlog. Santander analysts likewise described the size of the order as particularly meaningful, pointing to strengthening demand for the E2 family. Other major operators of the type include Canada’s Porter Airlines, Brazil’s Azul, and KLM.
The order arrives at a time of strong momentum for Embraer. Shares trading in São Paulo jumped as much as 5.5% on the news, hitting an all-time intraday record and outpacing Brazil’s benchmark Bovespa index, which rose 0.3% on the day. Embraer stock has climbed over 40% year-to-date after a surge of more than 150% in 2024, underscoring investor confidence in sustained demand for its aircraft.
For SAS, the move represents a strategic fleet renewal aimed at reinforcing its position as Scandinavia’s largest carrier. It also comes shortly after Embraer lost out to Airbus in a high-profile competition for Polish carrier LOT’s narrowbody order, where Airbus secured a deal for 40 A220 jets. Embraer, however, emphasized the significance of the new SAS agreement, describing it as a milestone that strengthens its foothold in Europe while supporting the company’s ambitions for its latest generation of jets.
