The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially set 16 years as the minimum age for admission into the nation's tertiary institutions. This directive aims to standardize the age of entry into higher education across the country.

Strict Enforcement and Penalties for Non-Compliance

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced this definitive policy on Tuesday during the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja. He emphasized that this minimum admission age of 16 is final and non-negotiable.

Furthermore, Dr. Alausa issued a stern warning that any admission conducted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) will be considered illegal. Institutions or individuals found responsible for such unauthorized admissions will face prosecution. The Minister particularly cautioned heads of institutions, stating that those involved in admission malpractice will be held accountable.

This new policy underscores the government's commitment to reforming the admissions process and ensuring adherence to established guidelines.
