Activist references past scandals, hints at final response in latest lyrical attack
Popular social media activist Vincent Otse Martins, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has reignited his public spat with controversial street-hop artist Portable by dropping a fresh diss track, intensifying one of the most talked-about online feuds in Nigeria's entertainment space.
Posted to his Instagram page, the latest track sees VeryDarkMan rapping in multiple languages, lacing sharp lyrical punches with personal jabs. He accused Portable of theft, referenced his frequent police altercations, and mocked past controversies tied to the singer’s turbulent career.
This latest diss marks the second installment in VeryDarkMan’s response after Portable took shots at him in a track released shortly after the activist called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently address Nigeria’s worsening economic crisis and the spate of killings in Benue State.
Portable’s earlier retaliation veered into personal territory, attacking VeryDarkMan’s sexuality and character — an angle that further fuelled public interest in the feud.
In his latest release, VeryDarkMan not only doubled down on his critiques but also used archival footage of Portable’s run-ins with law enforcement to strengthen his narrative. The visuals accompanying the track include clips of past arrests, social media outbursts, and controversial interviews — all adding layers to what appears to be a calculated takedown.
Despite the combative tone, VeryDarkMan suggested in the caption that this might be his final word on the matter, stating that Portable was already “crying” from the previous hits.
He also took time to shout out his support system, thanking personalities like Jojo of Lele, Don Jazzy, Dkokopee, DJ Big N, and his brother, whose encouragement he credited for helping him maintain his footing amid the social media storm.
The spat, while entertaining to fans, underscores a deeper clash between Nigeria's digital influencer culture and its sometimes chaotic music scene — a dynamic that continues to blur the lines between activism, entertainment, and personal branding.
Whether this marks the end of their feud or merely a pause remains to be seen, but for now, social media continues to buzz with reactions as fans and critics dissect the latest lyrical shots fired.
