A fresh flashpoint has emerged in the long-running friction between Eddie Murphy and Bill Cosby, as Murphy’s latest on-screen joke has reportedly reopened old wounds between the two comedy legends.

In a closing segment of Netflix’s new documentary Being Eddie, Murphy appears with puppets modeled after Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, and Paul Mooney. The bit includes Murphy using the Cosby puppet in a satirical exchange referencing long-publicized allegations that once placed the former sitcom star on trial. Cosby, who served time before his 2021 release after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his conviction, has largely withdrawn from public life.

According to a source cited by RadarOnline, the skit is expected to land poorly with the 87-year-old comedian. The insider claims Cosby is “living like a recluse” and has limited ability—or inclination—to respond publicly. Still, the source suggested he will be “furious” when he learns of the new jab.

The two entertainers’ strained relationship dates back decades, rooted in a phone call in which Cosby allegedly criticized Murphy for the profanity and edginess that defined his early stand-up career. Murphy, whose breakthrough specials such as Delirious embraced taboo-pushing humor, has occasionally referenced the disagreement in interviews and comedy routines.

Being Eddie explores Murphy’s rise, influences, and personal recollections—sometimes bluntly—offering anecdotes that range from backstage run-ins to brushes with Hollywood lore. The documentary is now streaming on Netflix.
