The details of the ambitious initiative are scheduled to be unveiled at a press conference on November 11, which will feature Germany’s Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, the report said.
According to documents cited by Handelsblatt, the plan will include the construction of new infrastructure and data centres, alongside innovative projects aimed at advancing renewable energy use and recycling waste heat from data operations.
The initiative is part of Google’s broader strategy to strengthen its footprint in Europe and support its commitment to carbon-neutral operations. The company also plans to expand its existing facilities in Munich, Frankfurt, and Berlin, enhancing Germany’s position as a key hub for its European cloud and digital services.
Google has not yet issued an official statement. A spokesperson for the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
Industry observers say the investment underscores growing confidence in Germany’s digital economy and aligns with the government’s efforts to attract major tech infrastructure projects that support the country’s energy transition and data sovereignty goals.
