Fuel prices in Abuja received a welcome reduction on Thursday as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) lowered its premium motor spirit (PMS) pump price, following a drop in ex-depot prices by Dangote Refinery and other depot owners.
A survey of filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory revealed that NNPCL’s retail outlets on Kubwa Expressway, Gwarimpa, Wuse Zones 4 and 6, and other parts of Abuja now sell petrol at ₦930 per litre, down from the previous ₦945, marking a ₦15 reduction. Other service stations in the city also adjusted their prices: Ranoil in Gwarimpa reduced its pump price by ₦5 to ₦935 per litre, while MRS and AP Ardova stations now dispense petrol between ₦930 and ₦935.
The downward trend follows ex-depot price cuts announced Thursday morning by Dangote Refinery and major depot owners including Pinnacle and Aiteo, who reduced their rates by at least ₦10, with prices set at ₦846, ₦845, and ₦844 per litre, respectively.
Chinedu Ukadike, spokesperson for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), noted that the fuel price war could lead to further reductions. “Fuel prices may drop further as the ongoing petrol price war intensifies,” he told DAILY POST.
The adjustments come amid heightened competition in the downstream sector, offering temporary relief to motorists and highlighting the impact of refinery and depot pricing on pump rates across the nation.
