Police spokesperson Olushola Ayanlade stated that the suspects were apprehended following the prompt response of security operatives to the disturbance at the Government Field, where the incident occurred. The attack had caused panic among attendees, resulted in injuries to members of Obesere’s band, and led to the destruction of musical equipment, drawing widespread public concern.
In response to the incident, Andrew Ogunsakin, Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, said the council plans to engage directly with Obesere and his management team to help ease tensions and promote lasting peace within the community. He commended the swift intervention of security agencies and reiterated the local government’s zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism.
“The council is committed to ensuring law and order and will continue to implement measures to prevent such occurrences in the future,” Mr Ogunsakin said, adding that the safety of residents and visitors remains a top priority.
The attack, which took place on Friday, had previously been reported to have involved a gang of thugs who unexpectedly disrupted the event, assaulting the musician and forcing guests to flee in fear. Several band members were reportedly hurt, and valuable musical equipment was damaged during the chaos.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter, and further arrests have not been ruled out as the investigation progresses.
