Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has made history as the first African artist to surpass 100 million Shazams, solidifying his status as a global music icon.

Shazam, the music recognition app that identifies songs through short audio clips, has tracked over 100 million taps on Wizkid’s catalogue, which spans 185 charted tracks across 1,230 cities in 68 countries. The milestone, achieved in early November, comes shortly after the release of his three-track collaboration with DJ Tunez and DJ Maphorisa, featuring hits like Money Constant and Abangani. Money Constant quickly soared to the top of Apple Music’s Top Songs Chart in Nigeria.

This landmark builds on the momentum of Wizkid’s 2024 release, Morayo, which amassed hundreds of millions of streams and multiple radio hits. Additional collaborations with Odumodublvck, Asake, and Fola also contributed, generating viral moments on TikTok and expanding his global audience.

Over a career spanning more than a decade, Wizkid has steadily grown his international presence. His catalogue includes Grammy-nominated Essence featuring Tems, the global hit Brown Skin Girl with Beyoncé, and his guest feature on Drake’s One Dance, all among the most Shazamed Afrobeats songs in history.

Since debuting with Superstar in 2011, the Grammy-award winner has released successful albums including Ayo (2014), Sounds from the Other Side (2017), Made in Lagos (2020), and More Love, Less Ego (2022). His hit Essence became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, earning him worldwide recognition.

Throughout his career, Wizkid has accumulated numerous accolades, including a Grammy, multiple BET, MOBO, and Headies Awards, and a series of streaming and chart records. Crossing the 100 million Shazam mark further cements his position as a global standard-bearer for African music.
