Award-winning actor Femi Adebayo has stepped forward to defend his colleague, Odunlade Adekola, following online criticism of the actor’s latest film, Warlord.

The response comes after a social media user criticized the movie, claiming its production fell short and singling out Adekola for taking on multiple roles. The user wrote: “Na you go be producer, main character, singer, director. Na why your movies no dey make sense. Do better.”

In a measured response, Adebayo emphasised the need for respect and perspective when evaluating creative work. He reminded followers that filmmaking is inherently collaborative, involving directors, writers, crew, and actors, all of whom contribute to the final product.

“I’ve noticed one or two tweets from this account about my brother’s movie. Understandably, you’re entitled to your opinion, but posting comments from behind a keyboard doesn’t automatically make those opinions accurate,” Adebayo wrote. “Let’s keep it respectful; that is someone’s craft. Filmmaking is teamwork, with directors, writers, crew, and actors all putting in their best. This project is my brother’s. Watch it at a cinema near you… and judge it with open eyes, not quick fingers. That’s the fair way!”

Adebayo’s statement serves as a reminder of the pressures filmmakers face in the digital age, where instant reactions and viral criticism can often overshadow the effort and artistry behind a project. By urging fans to approach Warlord with an open mind, he called for a more thoughtful, fair evaluation of Adekola’s work.

Warlord is currently showing in cinemas nationwide, giving viewers the opportunity to form their own opinions firsthand.
