Osimhen, who scored twice the last time the two sides met in the Turkish Super Lig, has recovered from a minor hamstring injury and is expected to spearhead Galatasaray’s attack in the Intercontinental Derby.
Skriniar has a history with the Napoli forward, dating back to their days in Italy. The Fenerbahce defender was involved in an aerial collision with Osimhen in November 2021 during a clash between Inter Milan and Napoli, an incident that later led the Nigerian international to wear a protective face mask.
Speaking to Bein Sports, Skriniar emphasized that stopping Osimhen will require a team-wide effort. “Both (Osimhen, Icardi) are very good centre-forwards. Of course, they have different types of characteristics, but they are very good players,” he said.
“We will see what we need to do defensively on Monday. We need to play compactly and aggressively, and be together so we can stop them.”
The comments underscore the intensity expected in the Istanbul showdown, with Fenerbahce aiming to curb Osimhen’s threat and secure a crucial victory in one of Turkey’s most fiercely contested fixtures.
