The announcement was made at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Fairmont Katara Hall in Doha, Qatar. On the men’s side, Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma received the corresponding award.
Nnadozie, 25, was shortlisted alongside Hampton, Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger, Spain’s Cata Coll, Chile’s Christiane Endler, England’s Anna Moorhouse, and the USA’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce. Despite her strong credentials, she did not make the podium.
The Nigerian goalkeeper has enjoyed a remarkable 2024/25 season. She was instrumental in Paris FC’s historic Coupe de France Féminine victory, their first major trophy in nearly 20 years, and played a key role in Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON triumph in Morocco. At the tournament, Nnadozie kept four clean sheets in six matches, conceding only twice in the final against Morocco as the Super Falcons came from two goals down to win 3–2.
After helping Paris FC reach the French league playoffs, Nnadozie completed a move to Brighton Women in England. In the Women’s Super League this season, she has maintained consistency with three clean sheets in 10 league games and earned the November Save of the Month award. She also claimed the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award for the third consecutive year in November.
Hampton, also 25, had a standout year for both club and country. She helped Chelsea Women secure a domestic treble last season and was pivotal in England’s successful defense of their Euro 2025 title. Accepting the award, Hampton thanked England manager Sarina Wiegman and Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor, highlighting the importance of team support.
“With club and country, we have achieved so much, and there is still much more for us to go and get,” Hampton said. “To the fans, both club and country, your support doesn’t go unnoticed. We hear you cheering every single game, loud and proud, and it helps push us on to go and get the win for you all. So, thank you very much.”
The award caps a season in which both goalkeepers have demonstrated exceptional talent, with Nnadozie continuing to shine at the continental level and Hampton dominating on the global stage.
